School of Icons
E1: Alarm Clock
Welcome to the first episode of our icon design series School of Icons! In this tutorial, we'll walk through the process of creating an alarm clock icon. This is what you'll need:
- an app for drawing vectors, like Figma, Framer, Sketch, Adobe Illustrator or Glyphs,
- a 24px grid artboard and a 2px stroke width set up in your design file
- and a few minutes of your time.
Step 1.
Begin with a low opacity circle as an optical size guide.
Step 2.
Form the alarm clock base using a full circle for the body and a half circle for the bells.
Step 3.
Introduce vertical gridlines for bell placement consistency.
Step 4.
Refine the outer circle's arc to shape the first bell.
Step 5.
Duplicate and flip horizontally the first bell to create the other bell.
Step 6.
Add two legs to the bottom of the clock.
Step 7.
Include the hour and minute hands to complete the clock's appearance.
Et voilà! Here's your alarm clock icon.
